Keen on buying??

We went to Upper Hutt last Saturday, and in one of the mall there, a lady approached us, offering us to join the Home Ownership Education Programme. This program offers workshop sessions or distance learning materials for kiwi who haven't owned their own home yet. I signed up and just got the material yesterday. I was expecting the materials to be some crappy brochures, but apparently they're quite serious with it. I feel like going back to school again :-)

It's pretty amazing that NZ government has this kind of course, it's no easy task considering that NZ is one of the place where average kiwi can hardly afford to buy one. Survey by Demographia shows that the median house price vs median household income is at around 6 for big cities like Auckland, Wellington, or Christchurch. I haven't done my own research, but with the interest rate sitting pretty at 10 ish % and the booming of property price in the past year, their survey shouldn't be far from truth.

So will we buy one here in NZ? We'll I've got to finish my course first.. Be back with the answer in 4 weeks time... If I pass :-)
